Special assembly on Gandhi Jayanti

The students of class 6 conducted a special assembly on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of our father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi. They highlighted the vision of Bapu with respect to a caste free society where in every one is equal through a mesmerizing skit presentation. They emphasized on the need of sanitation and cleanliness by participating in ‘Shramdaan activity’ where in they all cleaned their classrooms and campus.  They pledged to make their motherland a better to live in by following the principles of Bapu in all walks of life.

It was a moment of insightful learning and excitement for students of Class 2 when they interacted with Skype Master Trainer Ms. Manuela Correia from Portugal through a Skype session organized in Primary Wing. Ms. Manuela delivered an eye- opening Skype session sensitizing students on how plastic waste is becoming a deadly hazard for marine life. Students were horrified to know how tons of plastic waste dumped all over the world reaches ocean beaches and is mistakenly consumed by marine animals resulting in choking and ultimately death. The Skype Session was conducted by Ms. Preeti Maheshwari and Ms. Anjana Sharma as part of Plastic Clean Up Brigade to address UN SDG goals on life below water. Students also participated in Kahoot Quiz organized by the speaker Ms. Manuela on plastic waste problem and its impact on marine life .

One more milestone towards learning beyond classroom was achieved when ICT educator Anjana Sharma, along with Darshana Sinha and Shivani Bathla could connect with Mount Litera Zee School, Amritsar for a skype interaction on World Peace Day. Students of Mount Litra Zee School, under mentorship of their educator Ms. Mehak Mehra and Director Ms. Manjot Dhillon shared their speech and ideas on making efforts to nurture peace on this World Peace Day (celebrated on 21st September every year). Students of Mount Litera Zee School also enacted as Mahatma Gandhi, Malala and Mother Teresa sharing their vision of a peaceful world. Our students also shared their poems and posters on World Peace Day with the partner school besides sharing links of their presentation on World Peace Day created using presentation tool Buncee. Such exchange of ideas substantiates the fact that though there might be differences in culture and customs, humanity and willingness to live with peace unites us all.

Students of Class 2 from Primary Wing, under leadership of Ms. Anjana Sharma and Ms. Shivani Bathla, got an opportunity to share Peace Day promises with Ms. Olena Holub, from Petropavlivska Secondary School, Ukraine and her students. The Skype session was conducted to celebrate World Peace Day, while addressing UN Sustainable Development Goal No 16; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Students exchanged their drawings and poems on Peace with students of partner school and were excited to engage through global learning platform offered by Skype.

Students of Class III got an exciting opportunity to watch renowned Odissi dance exponent Ms. Kavita Dwibedi performing live on SPIC MACAY ‘Virasat’ 2018 programme organized by Delhi Public School Ghaziabad on 14th September 2018.

Ms. Kavita Dwibedi, in SPIC MACAY’s lec-dem (lecture-demonstration) format, presented Odissi dance form while giving children a basic understanding of this captivating dance style. She discussed the history of Odissi dance form and elaborated on the graceful moves and gestures used in this dance. She began her performance with Manglacharan, Ganesh Stuti in Raag Yaman which was simply a remarkable visual experience for students who are learning about various dance forms as part of their inquiry on Performing Arts.

She mesmerized one and all with her impressive Mudras during her performance  Battu. Known for her distinctive style Abhinay, she held the audience spellbound when she enacted story of Lord Krishna’s childhood through Abhinay. She was accompanied by Mr. Prashant Kumar Mangraj on Mardal, Mr. Suresh Kumar Sethi on vocal and Mr. Dheeraj Kumar on flute who created a magical aura with their melodious rendition.

She also answered various queries raised by students and was elated to see their excitement and curiosity to know more about Odissi dance.

Primary Wing of DPSG celebrated “ Hindi Diwas” on 14th September with great enthusiasm. Students of Classes I-V participated in different activities and competitions like , Hindi Kavya Gosthi, Recitation, Enactment of moral stories, making Power Point Presentation in Hindi, Calligraphy Competition and many more .

ROLE PLAY --COMMUNITY HELPERS

The conventional instructional strategy of students enacting role plays and building up knowledge on a topic was reversed when teachers, instead of students, enacted as community helpers to teach them about their role and importance in the society. Students roared with excitement when they saw their dear mother teachers coming on the stage dressed up as tailor, milkman, banker, electrician, doctor, chef, pilot and soldier. Teachers interacted with students about the integral role they play as community helpers in the society.
